Book Review: Liz DeJesus’ First Frost

Seventeen-year-old Bianca Frost can’t wait to graduate high school and move on with her life. She works at the fairy tale museum run by parents and is the only employee since her parents refuse to hire outside help. She tries to make the best out of the situation and grudgingly assists her mother when needed. One night she returns home to find her mother battling a witch. She watches in awe as her mother conjures up fire and sends a ball of light towards Lenore. Afterwards her mother tells Bianca the family secret: they are descendants of Snow White. Bianca accepts her heritage and begins to train with her mother on how to use her own magic. Everything seems to be going well until Lenore comes back and kidnaps Bianca’s… Read more »

Books I’d love to see adapted and others I can live without

Books I’d love to see adapted and others I can live without

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish This week’s topic is Top Ten Books I’d like to see adapted into films. I’ve listed 5 books or series that I’d love to see on television and 5 that should never be developed 5 books or series I’d love to see on the small screen Georgette Heyer’s Regency romances Any of Heyer’s books would make great adaptations! I wish the BBC would take note and adapt some of her Regency romances instead of remaking Austen. Don’t get me wrong, I adore Austen, but you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. Unlike Austen, Heyer had to research and explain to her audience the Regency world. She was very much inspired by Austen and I believe her novels would make wonderful adaptations. She also… Read more »

Blog Tour: Review-Angela Carlie’s Jenny’s Blue Velvet + Giveaway

Blog Tour: Review-Angela Carlie’s Jenny’s Blue Velvet + Giveaway

I’ll go ahead and admit it: I wanted to be part of the blog tour based on the cover alone! It’s gorgeous, but when I actually read the synopsis, I was intrigued and Angela Carlie doesn’t disappoint! Carlie’s Jenny’s Blue Velvet is a story within a story and by that I mean, we get Jenny’s story and a glimpse into the book she’s writing. Jenny is an author and dreams of publishing her book and it becoming a bestseller in order for her husband, Jason, to quit his job and spend more time with her and the girls. I really enjoyed Carlie’s writing and she knows how to throw a curve ball I didn’t see coming. The alternate text from the story Jenny was writing was engaging and at times,… Read more »

I really enjoyed Mark Capell’s Vows to Kill and he has a talent for crafting intricate stories that make you question the main character’s reliability. Book Review: Jessica Lemmon’s Can’t Let Go

Book Review: Jessica Lemmon’s Can’t Let Go

Jessica Lemmon’s Can’t Let Go was originally scheduled for an October release with Hard to Handle set for September, but the dates were changed. While some may hate the ending to Can’t Let Go and call it a cliffhanger, it really isn’t one. If you haven’t read Tempting the Billionaire, you don’t need to in order to enjoy Can’t Let Go, but I do recommend it because you’ll have a better understanding of the time frame. It’s not necessary though! Those that read Lemmon’s Tempting the Billionaire will remember Sadie and Aiden. Both are secondary characters and we know from Tempting that Sadie ends up dating Aiden. What we don’t know is exactly what happened between the two of them. Crickitt attempts to get to the bottom of it, but… Read more »

Postscript: August 2013

Postscript: August 2013

Where did August go? I swear it was just the start of the month a few days ago! Well I survived jury duty! Not the first time serving and I doubt it will be my last. There was a lot of waiting around and quickly learned to bring at least two books with me in case one of them didn’t work out or I finished one. I did get chosen for one case (guilty on 1 count, but not guilty on 2 others) and was considered for two other cases, but was let go in the end. I’ve spent the past few days catching up on a few reviews and working on the blog. I’ve updated a lot of feature images and am slowly making my way to other features…. Read more »
