Book Review: Tracy Wolff’s Ruined

Book Review: Tracy Wolff’s Ruined

I was really excited to read Tracy Wolff’s Ruined because a few friends really enjoyed it. In the end, it fell a bit flat. Character development is a bit weak. Ethan went from being this beach bum type of guy to suddenly suit wearing CEO. For the most part, he remains mysterious and even when he tells Chloe a bit of his past we still don’t know exactly who Ethan Frost is. The whole beach bum vs CEO felt a bit off. Out of all the characters we get to know Chloe fairly well. It makes sense since she also narrates it. As a narrator I think she’s trustworthy. It’s clear something traumatic happened to her and she doesn’t tell us exactly what it is nor does she give us… Read more »

Blog Tour: Review-Christina Lee’s Before You Break + Giveaway

Blog Tour: Review-Christina Lee’s Before You Break + Giveaway

I enjoyed Christina Lee’s All of You and when asked to participate in the blog tour for Before You Break I didn’t think twice. Before You Break is a heartbreaking journey and one where two people will unknowingly save one another. We have good character development. Even though we first meet Ella Abrams in Lee’s All of You, it was a real treat getting to know her in Before You Break. Ella wants to make a difference and is a psychology major. She also volunteers at a suicide hotline and comes from a large loving family. It’s very easy to see why Ella has such good friends and you’ll even want to be her friend. Daniel “Quinn” is a star baseball player living in the shadows of his past. Everything… Read more »

Excerpt: Christina Lee’s Before You Break

Excerpt: Christina Lee’s Before You Break

As part of the blog tour, I have an excerpt of Christina Lee’s Before You Break. Enjoy! Synopsis: The star catcher of the college baseball team isn’t supposed to have skeletons in his closet. But Daniel Quinn is hiding a guilty past so dark he refuses to let anyone get close. Except there’s something about gorgeous, studious Ella Abrams that goes beyond the electric attraction between them—something that makes him want to open up. Ella has suffered enough heartache and guilt to fill one of her psychology textbooks, but she keeps that part of herself hidden behind a bubbly exterior. Until she receives an anonymous call while working the suicide helpline and the voice on the other end touches something inside of her that she can’t ignore. Soon Ella and… Read more »

A. G. Howard Book Signing Wrap Up + Giveaway

A. G. Howard Book Signing Wrap Up + Giveaway

On Friday, February 7th, A. G. Howard was in town and there was a book signing. I wasn’t aware that the bookstore had a separate building for bookish events and was surprised at how dead it was. I browsed a bit and then Howard herself walked into the store and was told she was in the wrong location. So there she goes and I’m following her! Good thing it was in the same vicinity! On arrival I bought 4 copies: 2 of Splintered & 2 of Unhinged. The cashier mentioned she was a book blogger too, but I didn’t get a chance to get her blog name and exchange info. The highlight of the evening wasn’t only Howard, but meeting Danielle from Consuming Worlds! We’ve talked before and haven’t had… Read more »

Blog Tour: Guest Post-Write What You Know by Devri Wells + Giveaway

Blog Tour: Guest Post-Write What You Know by Devri Wells + Giveaway

Today’s our stop on the Wings of Arian blog tour and I’m excited to welcome Devri Walls to Lit, etc. I asked Devri if she agrees with the saying, “write what you know.” Write What You Know Writing what you know is a really great piece of advice… as long as you realize that you actually know a lot. Unfortunately, that particular bit of writing advice, I believe, has become misconstrued along the way by people who have been bitten by the dreaded literalitis bug. You know, that dreaded disease where someone takes everything so literally you want to beat your head against the wall. Some of these poor sick people will try to tell you that you should only write books about places you have been, people you know,… Read more »

Confessions of a Hogwarts Newbie: The Sorcerer’s Stone Part 2

Confessions of a Hogwarts Newbie: The Sorcerer’s Stone Part 2

As you several of you know, I’ve never read Harry Potter nor have I seen the films. I finished the second half to The Sorcerer’s Stone and I liked the pace a little better. What I really liked was seeing and experiencing Hogwarts at the same that Harry does. All the information he has to go on is based on what Ron tells him and of course Ron gets his info from his brothers. Hands down I loved the sorting hat scene! It was so much fun to read about. My next favorite has to be Christmas and I loved how Ron’s mother made a sweater for Harry! Most importantly I loved, loved, loved Harry receiving something that belonged to his father. Overall thoughts as I read: • Sorting hat… Read more »

It’s super cute and reflects the genres she covers perfectly! The Novel Hermit-I just adore that header and the colors she uses! Best Weekly Feature Do! Judge a Book By Its Cover over at Pop! Goes the Reader Cover. While most other blogs do this type of feature, what I love about Jen’s is that she… Read more »

2014 Book Blogger Love-a-thon Mini Challenge #3: Mad Lib

2014 Book Blogger Love-a-thon Mini Challenge #3: Mad Lib

Book Blogger Love-a-thon continues and this time with a mini challenge: mad libs! This was a fun challenge. One day, I was hiking with Shane. Out of the blue, a UFO came out of nowhere! It was so huge, golden and smelly. At first, we were afraid, we were petrified, but we ran. We hopped on the jeep to make our getaway. As we escaped, we turned up the radio because Dancing Queen came on and made me relax. Everything was extremely smooth sailing until a tiger appeared in the middle of the road. We swerved to avoid it, but while Shane stayed on the jeep, I got thrown onto my side in the woods. I couldn’t get up, and felt silly as I lay there staring up at the… Read more »
