2014 Book Blogger Love-a-Thon Interview Swap with Always Lost in Books

February 15, 2014 Love-a-thon 8

Book Blogger Love-a-Thon is a two day event hosted by Alexa from Alexa Loves Books and Kate from Tales of Books and Bands.

Today, I’m interviewing fellow blogger friend Francine from Always Lost in Books. I first met Francine this past summer during the Summer Lovin’ read-a-thon and since then it’s been awesome getting to know her better. As part of Book Blogger Love-a-thon, participants were assigned interview partners and we were paired up.

There wasn’t a set number of required questions and we agreed upon 10 that would cover a variety of topics. I loved getting to know her better and I hope you do too!

1. Tell me something about yourself other than the bio you have on your blog .
I love The Lord of the Rings trilogy movies. They are awesome. I love love love the soundtrack. It’s just perfect. And I recently got addicted to an RTS (real-time strategy game) called The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth, which is a big thing because I don’t really play a lot of video games. The game is just beautiful, and I found myself enjoying it even in the hard level. I have yet to read the novels though because I’m saving up to get this really good copy. I have read The Hobbit though.

2. What inspired you to start blogging?
I really don’t know. šŸ˜› I actually started out with tumblr (iamfullybooked.tumblr.com), which was mostly just book quotes. If you had asked me in 2012 and years before that, I would have NEVER replied that I would review a book. Yet somehow here I am doing it monthly. I have been checking out a couple of book blogs prior to starting mine though. I jut never was really active in the community. I think it all started with my intense love for Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi and Let The Sky Fall by Shannon Messenger that I started writing out my thoughts to let them out. I posted those on tumblr, and then decided to open up a review blog.

3. Do people in real life (friends, family, coworkers) know that you have blog? If so, what’s been their reaction?
I don’t really want real people to know about my blog because what if they judge me? *shifty eyes* but my family soon somehow ended up knowing about it even if I didn’t want them to. How else would you explain the packages in the mail? šŸ˜› Also, my oldest brother designed my current logo so he definitely had to know about it. And I would ask my second brother to check out my blog design because I’m that insecure about it. Haha!

4. What is your favorite part of being a blogger? And what’s your least?
Favorite – Meeting the SWEETEST people ever. Either through comments or tweets, they sometimes make my day. They’re mostly book bloggers, but there are some authors as well. I love them all. They are awesome.

Least favorite – I’m not really sure. My whole blogging experience has been pleasant so far. I think the only bad thing is stressing myself out sometimes about it so that’s pretty much self-inflicted.

5. Classic book you’re embarassed to admit you’ve never read?
I haven’t read a LOT of the classics. I don’t really think it’s something to be embarrassed about. Let’s face it. It’s hard to get into especially for the later generations. I think that context and language is just different. I like reading them though, but I don’t seek them out as much as current books. I could probably count the ones I’ve read with my two hands. Maybe some toes. I don’t really remember how many.

6. A novel that you love that would surprise people?
I’m not really sure I’d surprise anyone with my book choices. Most of the people who know about my book obsession are people of the book blogosphere. You can’t really surprise those people, I think. Although I guess people would be surprised by Anna and the French Kiss mostly because of the title. Lol

7. Favorite adapation of a novel?
Catching Fire Movie! Best one I’ve seen so far. It’s not perfect, but the whole essence of the book was really there. I still demand more Finnick time though. šŸ˜› In terms of book adaptations, I ADORE the Splintered series by A.G. Howard that was adapted from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.

8. If you were shipwrecked on a desert island what 3 books would you want with you?
This is a hard one! How can I really choose? D: Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins, Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green & David Levithan, Splintered by A.G. Howard because those are the books I’ve read over and over.

9. Favorite book read so far in 2014? (Or most anticipated 2014 release & why?)
Unhinged by A.G. Howard. Hands down. AMAZING! I have yet to read more this year so this may or may not change. Who knows. šŸ˜›

10. Finally, who would play you in a film of your life?
I haven’t been a TV/Movie person in quite a long time. I don’t really know a lot of famous people. But it would have to be someone petite who could also act really awkward and socially inept. Lol. But fangirling is totally possible. And screeching and freaking out in very scary/uncomfortable situations.

  1. Amber @ Books of Amber

Well I’m very glad that you decided to start a review blog, Francine! I used to keep my blog a secret as well. I had told my mum about it, because she was wondering why all this bookish mail was suddenly arriving, but that was it. Gradually, I started telling people about it and it started slipping out in conversation! Now everyone at my work place knows about it, as well as my friends and family.

YES, meeting new people is one of my favourite parts of blogging as well.

I’d have to agree about Catching Fire – it’s the book-to-movie adaptation that I’ve always wanted! (Even with minimal Finnick time). Although, I’ll always have a soft spot for Twilight and it’s atrocious acting, that somehow suited the characters anyways! Haha

My family members all know I blog, but I’ve only shared my website with a few of them. I would just feel uncomfortable knowing that I could be “watched” at any time.

I loved the Catching Fire adaptation, too, Jess! It was so much better than the THG film. I’ll be rushing out to buy it when it’s released on DVD/BR next month.

The covers for Splintered & Unhinged are AMAZING! I haven’t read them yet but I want them for my shelves so I can just stare at the beauty <3

I haven't read a lot of the classics either. When I was younger I read them more but it was so long ago that I have forgotten about a lot of them. Little Women is one I still read to this day though!!

Great interview, I loved your questions! The shipwrecked question is very popular one this Love-a-thon!!!
