Happy Birthday + Giveaway

Happy Birthday + Giveaway

Eeek! I’m not one to make a HUGE fuss over birthday celebrations and since I’ve decided to be a little more open so you all get to know better, celebrating a birthday should be known. Right? So many moons ago on an extremely hot day in El Paso, Texas I was born and the next day apparently brought snow to the area! I was delivered by a Doctor Love and yeah I always get a kick out of seeing his name on my birth certificate. As part of you all getting to know me, here are some random facts (this post is totally inspired by Gillian over at Writer of Wrong’s post because I had a different post made up and decided this was more fun). 1. I have a… Read more »

Book Review: Catherine McKenzie’s Hidden

Book Review: Catherine McKenzie’s Hidden

Catherine McKenzie is well known for writing about life and the complexity of relationships. Hidden is her fourth novel and it’s a complex story about a man and the two women in his life who struggle in the aftermath of his death. We have good character development. Despite having three main protagonists (and even one that dies early on), we get to know each of them well enough. Jeff is an accountant who returns to live in his hometown after college. He loves golf and in many ways comes off as carefree. His wife, Claire, is a lawyer turned daycare owner and while we don’t get to really know her, we do get enough to form an idea of who she is. I really liked Claire and despite a few… Read more »

Blog Tour: Guest Post-From Rabbits to Regency Rogues by Julie Anne Long + Giveaway

Blog Tour: Guest Post-From Rabbits to Regency Rogues by Julie Anne Long + Giveaway

I’m excited to welcome Julie Anne Long to Lit, etc! Today she’s talking about the first story she wrote and how she came about to write about rogues. You can read an exclusive excerpt here. From Rabbits to Regency Rogues Between the Devil and Ian Eversea is my fourteenth published book. Well, fifteenth, if you count the Crayola-illustrated, bound-in-staples affair about a talking rabbit named Reddy I self-published when I was about six. It was a thrilling milestone—to me, the whole point of learning to write was so I could finally record the stories I was forever making up. Even before I could read, I would sit cross-legged with the grown-up chapter books in our house (our house was chock full of books of all kinds), and stare at the… Read more »

Postscript: March 2014

Postscript: March 2014

Where in the world did March go? I swear I blinked and it was April! Well, as you read in February’s Postscript post, I was recovering from bronchitis and guess what? Got hit again with round 2. Luckily though, this weekend marks a week since I finished my last round of meds and it looks like I’m in the clear! :crosses fingers: One of the downsides of working with the homeless is that you do get sick a lot because the guys that come into the office are ALWAYS sick. I’m hoping to get back into the swing of the things with regards to the regular features that sadly haven’t been updated regularly. I’ve had some down time at work so I’ve been busy making lists, etc. A quick reminder… Read more »

Book Review: LynDee Walker’s Small Town Spin

Book Review: LynDee Walker’s Small Town Spin

LynDee Walker’s Small Town Spin is the third book in the Headlines in High Heels series. If you haven’t read the series before it’s not necessary to do so in order to enjoy Small Town Spin. Walker does give us a bit of background information that occurs in the first two books, but nothing that I would consider a spoiler. What I really enjoyed about Small Town Spin was how different it read from the previous two full length novels. Walker gets personal with Nichelle and here we are given more than a passing glance at Nichelle’s life outside the newsroom. It’s no secret that I adore Joey and Joey fans will rejoice every time he makes an appearance. I just love how Walker makes us blush, laugh, and squeal… Read more »
