Lori Wilde is an author I’ve wanted to read, but never had the chance. When given the opportunity to participate in the blog tour for I’ll Be Home for Christmas, I couldn’t say no. I’ll Be Home for Christmas is the seventh book in the Twilight, Texas series and if you haven’t read the previous novels, it’s not necessary to do so. If you’re wondering about possible spoilers, I didn’t see any that might be considered as spoilers.
We have good character development. Gabi Preston needs time to think of her next move. She’s just dropped out of law school and isn’t sure if she wants to follow in the footsteps of her parents. Gabi is likable and you’ll easily feel for her especially when it comes to her brother! I won’t go into detail because I don’t want to spoil anything. Then there’s Joe Cheek, in town just to help his grandfather and his business stay afloat. He’s protective, kind, and a real ladies man. You’ll easily like him, but realize he’s too good to be true. Alas, he’s perfect on page! We have several secondary characters that are important to the story including Joe’s sister, Katie. Since there are a handful of secondary characters that show up, I won’t mention all of them. I personally loved Joe’s grandfather!
What I really enjoyed about I’ll Be Home for Christmas is the Christmas feeling! If you’ve ever dreamed of living in a town that actually celebrates Christmas as seen in Hollywood films, this is the book for you! I also have a secret-I like to read books that share the same plot as a film. In this case, it’s The Holiday. Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz swap lives and of course Gabi and Kate do it here too. I loved that Joe even knew the plot and made references of it to Gabi! How many men in real life can cite a chick flick? Talk about swoon! 😉 While Wilde could have just made I’ll Be Home a copy of The Holiday (I’ve read several books that are no different than film down to the plot and the conflict), she didn’t. Instead she gave us a story where the meaning of Christmas and family is at its center.
In the end, what I adored about I’ll Be Home is the relationship between Joe and Gabi. There’s no jealousy, drama, or misunderstandings. We have two adults who actually talk and aren’t afraid to face their responsibilities. I also really liked the family aspect because it reminds us that not everyone has a family to turn to when celebrating the Holidays. Overall, I just loved this book!
If you’re fan of holiday romances or are looking for a sweet romance, I highly recommend Lori Wilde’s I’ll Be Home for Christmas. I can’t wait to read the previous books in the series and am hoping Katie gets her own shot at happiness.
