Synopsis: Addison Williams isn't looking for romance, but when she encounters an eavesdropping stranger on an adjoining hotel balcony, she figures she's due a little fun. She just hadn't reckoned on the "fun" escalating so quickly to "out of control." One minute she's flirting with a whiskey-graveled voice in the dark, the next that same voice is telling her to do things. Hot, wicked things.
Cup-winning hockey player Ford "Killer" Callaghan can't believe he let the anonymous woman who blew his mind slip away into the night. He'll track her down because once could never be enough—even if discovering her identity places her strictly out of bounds.
Stolen kisses. Secret hook-ups. Deliciously forbidden in every way. Can a passion that started in the dark find a lifetime of love in the light?
I’m a hockey fan and when I heard about the Hot on Ice anthology, I was curious. When given the opportunity to participate in the blog tour about the anthology, I signed up. As some of you are aware, I adore Kate Meader’s writing and I couldn’t pass up the chance to read In Skates Trouble. Not only is it part of a great anthology, but proceeds of Hot on Ice‘s sales go to a great cause, Homes for our Troops. Also, In Skates Trouble sets the scene for Meader’s Chicago Rebels series, an all about hockey book series!
We have good characterization. Addison Williams is a former plus size (a term she hates as well as I do) model who is done with being a trophy wife. She’s strong, independent, and fierce. Addison isn’t afraid to take on a challenge and stands by her beliefs. Ford Callaghan is the boy next door who went on to become a professional athlete. He’s loyal, but relentless. He has a tragic past and carries a lot of guilt because of what happened, but it doesn’t define him. You’ll adore Ford! I’ll be forever looking for my own! We have some great secondary characters who are vital including Addison’s best friend Harper Chase. If you don’t have a Harper in your life, you’re going to want one!
To be honest, what I really enjoyed about In Skates Trouble was the dirty talk between Addison and Ford! And trust me, I usually skim over the dirty talk because I kind of find it clichéd but oh my gosh, there’s something about Ford Callaghan and the way he talks! And to be honest, I never thought eavesdropping could be so hot! It’s also rare that you read about an older heroine and it was well done. I don’t want to go into detail and ruin the story for anyone, but trust me, you’ll enjoy this and despite it being a novella it really reads like a full length novel. I do have to warn you, if you read it public, people might wonder why you’re blushing or smiling a lot!
If you’re wondering if the novellas in Hot on Ice are interconnected, the answer is no. Each novella reads as a standalone and it’s all about what happens after they win the most coveted trophy in all of sports, the Stanley Cup! I didn’t read all of the 18 novellas, but did read a few (which I’ll review at a later date) and really enjoyed what I read.
Overall, I adored Kate Meader’s In Skates Trouble. I can’t wait to read Harper’s story and of course begin a new hockey series. If you’re a hockey fan or are looking to try a new author, you can’t go wrong with Kate Meader. She’s become an auto-buy / auto-read author.
