Book Review: Rachel Van Dyken’s The Wager

Book Review: Rachel Van Dyken’s The Wager

I’ve had my eye on Rachel Van Dyken for a while and when the opportunity came to review The Wager, I couldn’t pass up the chance. Unfortunately, it’s a forgettable book and definitely left me with no desire to read anymore of her books. Ultimately it comes down to her writing and unbelievable characters and situations. 1. The characters are put into some ridiculous situations. For example, Jake and Char are on the same flight and to teach Jake a lesson (after breaking her heart), she initiates a fight that requires the intervention of an air marshal who uses peanuts to subdue Jake. Book Review: Tara Sue Me’s The Dominant

Book Review: Tara Sue Me’s The Dominant

If Tara Sue Me’s The Dominant sounds awfully familiar to Fifty shades of Grey, it’s because this is the fan fiction that EL James borrowed from as she wrote Fifty Shades (according to the research I did). To be truthful, as I read I did get undertones of Fifty especially with Nathaniel owning his own financial firm to outlining when Abby will eat and exercise. The Dominant is also the second book in The Submissive series. Narration is first person and told via Nathaniel’s point of view. I liked Nathaniel and it’s clear he’s a good guy. The financial market is down and he’s opted to forgo his own personal salary so his employees get paid. He’s helpful and even helps a child by donating his own bone marrow. Despite… Read more »

Book Review: Stephanie Evanovich’s Big Girl Panties

Book Review: Stephanie Evanovich’s Big Girl Panties

If Stephanie Evanovich’s name sounds familiar it is because she’s the niece of Janet Evanovich. I wanted to love Big Girl Panties based on the synopsis, but it just fell flat. Logan has a habit of calling his female clients swans. Meaning he transforms them from ugly ducklings to beautiful swans and he’s quite confident in his ability. While I respect he’s a personal trainer and one to the rich and famous, he comes off as shallow and immature. Holly, on the other hand, is still grieving for her husband. She admits to self esteem issues and at times while I could relate to her, there were times I couldn’t stand her. Her constant comparison of her life versus her childhood friend’s life was annoying especially for a woman who… Read more »
