Summer Lovin’ Day 7: Graduation & Book Cover Guessing

(Organized and hosted by Oh, Chrys!, Tumbling Books, Effortlessly Reading, Love Life Read, Shelf Addiction, Read Sleep Repeat, and Reviewing Wonderland) I can’t believe Summer Lovin’ is over! Boo! I had a lot of fun and can’t wait for the next one. So how did my progress go? I had hoped to start both Divergent and Murder as a Fine Art, but there were a few snags. I received notification from my library branch that Divergent was ready for pick up on Thursday so I went Friday and couldn’t find it on hold. One of the librarians helped me and turns out the branch it was coming from, there was a fire and the system must have sent out an email when they had to shut it down. Earlier that… Read more »

Summer Lovin’ Day 6: Bad Boys & Summer Flings

(Organized and hosted by Oh, Chrys!, Tumbling Books, Effortlessly Reading, Love Life Read, Shelf Addiction, Read Sleep Repeat, and Reviewing Wonderland) Today’s participation post is about bad boys and I’m such a historical romance nerd! Both of mine come from historical romances. Bentley Rutledge from Liz Carlyle’s The Devil You Know is my Regency bad boy. He’s a rake and wherever he goes scandal follows him. we first get introduced to “Hell-Bent” in Beauty Like the Night where he’s sent down from Oxford and his brother Cam has no idea what to do with him. It’s in The Devil You Know that we get his full history including why he dislikes his brother so much and it’s heartbreaking because Cam didn’t know what was going on. The following is from… Read more »

Summer Lovin’ Day 5: Book Shimmies & Title Scrabble

(Organized and hosted by Oh, Chrys!, Tumbling Books, Effortlessly Reading, Love Life Read, Shelf Addiction, Read Sleep Repeat, and Reviewing Wonderland) Okay, today’s post is all about our progress. So before I begin, let’s do a book shimmy! I’ve finished Eloisa James’ Once Upon a Tower and what a delight it was! James can be hit or miss for me and usually because she uses a lot of her Shakespearean background in her novels and intermixes it, etc that I get lost and then lose interest. I was delighted with Tower and it’s one of my fave reads of the year! I’m almost done with Darynda Jones’ First Grave on the Right. It’s a little strange reading about the city you live in and Jones mentions streets and areas. I… Read more »

Summer Lovin’ Day 4: Book Quotes & Book Spine Poetry

(Organized and hosted by Oh, Chrys!, Tumbling Books, Effortlessly Reading, Love Life Read, Shelf Addiction, Read Sleep Repeat, and Reviewing Wonderland) For today’s participation post, we’re suppose to share a quote from our current read or a book that pulled on our heart strings. I’m going to share two quotes from George RR Martin’s books. The first is from A Game of Thrones and the second is A Clash of Kings. Why GRR Martin? I get to meet up with him next month and I’m in Martin mood. Since the font is a little difficult to read: The kingdom bleeds, and no one lifts a sword to defend it but my son. -Catelyn Stark What’s a quote from your current read or general favorite? Today’s challenge is book spine poetry!… Read more »

Summer Lovin’ Day 3: Favorite Fictional Female & Page 99 Test

(Organized and hosted by Oh, Chrys!, Tumbling Books, Effortlessly Reading, Love Life Read, Shelf Addiction, Read Sleep Repeat, and Reviewing Wonderland) Today’s participation post is about our favorite female character and my choice isn’t very popular among bookish people. I LOVE Scarlett O’Hara. From the moment Vivien Leigh graces the opening scene, I fell hard and needed to read the book, but there was one slight problem! I was five years old! No one felt it was appropriate to read me the book and yet it was okay to let me watch the film. I come from a family that don’t read for pleasure and I’m the odd ball always with my nose stuck in a book. My grandmother took pity and took me to the library where we would… Read more »

Summer Lovin’ Day 2: Summer Reads & Cover Re-do

(Organized and hosted by Oh, Chrys!, Tumbling Books, Effortlessly Reading, Love Life Read, Shelf Addiction, Read Sleep Repeat, and Reviewing Wonderland) Today’s participation post is all about MUST have summer reading. These are the books I usually recommend for summer reading because they’ll keep you glued to your seat, although make sure you’re wearing plenty of sunscreen if you’re reading outside! I don’t want to be held responsible for sunburns. 😉 01. A Burial at Sea by Charles Finch: Normally I don’t recommend books that aren’t the first book in a series, but I do recommend Charlie’s A Burial at Sea because it takes place on a ship sailing to Egypt. What better way to experience a Victorian mystery than abroad a ship? It’s my second favorite of his and… Read more »

Summer Lovin’ Day 1: Class Orientation

(Organized and hosted by Oh, Chrys!, Tumbling Books, Effortlessly Reading, Love Life Read, Shelf Addiction, Read Sleep Repeat, and Reviewing Wonderland) Woo-hoo! It’s here! The start of Summer Lovin’ and since it’s the first day, here are my goals including the books I plan to read. Although really looking at my TBR pile, I might tackle a different sent of books. So hi from Albuquerque, New Mexico! Where I’ve been doing the daily rain dance because we’re under a heat wave and need the rain. Since I hate dancing looks like I’m doing something wrong because there’s no rain. Nothing exciting ever happens in the city, but Johnny Depp is in town filming! I have yet to find him to kidnap him. 😉 I read a variety of genres mostly… Read more »
