Confessions of a Hogwarts Newbie: The Goblet of Fire

Confessions of a Hogwarts Newbie: The Goblet of Fire

As several of you know, I’ve never read Harry Potter! I read The Sorcerer’s Stone in February 2014. I’ll admit, I sort of found The Goblet of Fire to be a dead bore especially with regards to the quidditch section. I did appreciate the set up because it answered a few questions I had, but overall, I just didn’t like Goblet of Fire that much. The Triwizard Tournament was interesting especially the introduction of the other European Wizard schools. Overall thoughts as I read: • Poor Harry! I wish he had some support from the Dursleys especially when it comes to his scar. • I enjoyed picturing Dumbledore sunbathing on a beach somewhere. LOL • “Their attitude had changed since they had found out that Harry had a dangerous murderer… Read more »

Confessions of a Hogwarts Newbie: The Prisoner of Azkaban

As several of you know, I’ve never read Harry Potter! I read The Sorcerer’s Stone in February 2014. I really enjoyed The Prisoner of Azkaban and so far it’s my favorite of the four that I’ve read. I had all sort of thoughts regarding Sirius Black and I won’t ruin it for anyone who hasn’t read the books, but I’m really satisfied with his character. I was worried about Harry for a bit especially in the beginning, but he can hold his own. Overall thoughts as I read: • Harry studying witch burning in the 14th century and this little gem had me grinning, “Wendelin the Wired enjoyed being burnt so much that she allowed herself to be caught no fewer than forty-seven times in various disguises.” • Errol, the… Read more »

Confessions of a Hogwarts Newbie: The Chamber of Secrets

As several of you know, I’ve never read Harry Potter! I read The Sorcerer’s Stone in February 2014 and it’s been a rather long wait for a library copy. What I really liked about Chamber of Secrets is really seeing how the Hogwarts Houses came about. I also really enjoyed going back to Hogwarts and learning lessons at the same time Harry and his friends do. Truthfully, Snape is becoming a favorite. I can’t wait to see what other adventures Harry and his friends go on. Overall thoughts as I read: • Ah poor Harry! No one remembers his birthday. • Dudley is such a tattle tale! But yay Harry for doing a spell and making Dudley run for his life. • I’m curious to know more about Dobby and… Read more »

Confessions of a Hogwarts Newbie: The Sorcerer’s Stone Part 2

Confessions of a Hogwarts Newbie: The Sorcerer’s Stone Part 2

As you several of you know, I’ve never read Harry Potter nor have I seen the films. I finished the second half to The Sorcerer’s Stone and I liked the pace a little better. What I really liked was seeing and experiencing Hogwarts at the same that Harry does. All the information he has to go on is based on what Ron tells him and of course Ron gets his info from his brothers. Hands down I loved the sorting hat scene! It was so much fun to read about. My next favorite has to be Christmas and I loved how Ron’s mother made a sweater for Harry! Most importantly I loved, loved, loved Harry receiving something that belonged to his father. Overall thoughts as I read: • Sorting hat… Read more »

Confessions of a Hogwarts Newbie: The Sorcerer’s Stone Part 1

Confessions of a Hogwarts Newbie: The Sorcerer’s Stone Part 1

As several of you know, I’ve never read Harry Potter! I started The Sorcerer’s Stone last week and I’m halfway through it (well I stopped right where Harry and company are about to get sorted or something like that. LOL). What do I think so far? The Sorcerer’s Stone really is for children and you can definitely tell just by the first few opening pages. Still I’ve enjoyed what I read and keep wondering how in the world J. K. Rowling slept! I mean with all these characters and world building, I doubt I’d sleep very much. Overall thoughts as I read: • Why do the Dursley’s hate the Potter’s? • Okay…we have a cat and now there’s a Professor McGonagall. Who the heck is Dumbledore talking to and what… Read more »

Confessions of a Hogwarts Newbie

Confessions of a Hogwarts Newbie

Okay…it’s time for a bookish related confession. If you’ve followed the blog then this won’t come as a surprise, but then maybe it will. Are you ready? * * * When people ask me my thoughts about Harry Potter I always say I have nothing to say. Why? Because I’ve never read the books and haven’t seen the films. When I started to blog, I decided that needed to change. I know as a book blogger you can’t read every book out there (not ever reading Twilight), but it just seems that this is one series I needed to tackle. What I do know: • Harry lives with his aunt and uncle • Hogwarts is the school where Harry ends up going • Sorting hats (the term is all I… Read more »
