Book Review: Kate Meader’s Hot and Bothered

Book Review: Kate Meader’s Hot and Bothered

Kate Meader quickly became a new favorite author after reading the second book in her Hot in the Kitchen series, All Fired Up. When the opportunity came to review the third in the series, Hot and Bothered, I couldn’t pass up the chance. I wanted to see Jules get her happily ever after and oh boy did Meader deliver! We have good character development. Jules Kilroy is a single mother who is struggling with a secret: she’s dyslexic. She’s not very confident, but she has a heart of gold. Jules wants to live her own life and one way to do it, is on her own terms. So she moves out of her brother’s house and she’s ready to start dating. Then we have Tad DeLuca, who’s one of the… Read more »

Book Review: Rachel Van Dyken’s The Wager

Book Review: Rachel Van Dyken’s The Wager

I’ve had my eye on Rachel Van Dyken for a while and when the opportunity came to review The Wager, I couldn’t pass up the chance. Unfortunately, it’s a forgettable book and definitely left me with no desire to read anymore of her books. Ultimately it comes down to her writing and unbelievable characters and situations. 1. The characters are put into some ridiculous situations. For example, Jake and Char are on the same flight and to teach Jake a lesson (after breaking her heart), she initiates a fight that requires the intervention of an air marshal who uses peanuts to subdue Jake. But here’s the kicker-turns out Jake’s allergic to peanuts and you can very well imagine what happens next. 2. In order for Jake and Char to realize… Read more »

Blog Tour: Review-Lauren Layne’s Made For You + Giveaway

I enjoyed Lauren Layne’s Only With You and when I found out Brynn was getting her own book, I knew I had to have it and as soon as it was possible. When the opportunity came to participate in the blog tour, I couldn’t pass up the chance! I’m so glad I was able to participate because it was perfect! If you haven’t the first in the series, Only With You, it’s not necessary to do so in order to enjoy Made For You since Layne expands a few key scenes from Only With You and you aren’t missing much. We have really good character development. Brynn Dalton is an orthodontist and likes to make lists. In fact, she’s the queen of list making and when we find out why… Read more »

Blog Tour: Review-Lauren Layne’s Only with You + Giveaway

Lauren Layne is an author I’ve wanted to read ever since I won a copy of After the Kiss, but haven’t had the chance to do so. When I read the synopsis to Only with You, I knew I had to read it and when the opportunity came to participate in the blog tour, I couldn’t pass up the chance! We have really good character development. Sophie Dalton is relatable and likeable. She’s always done what was expected of her, but she’s a free spirit. I liked that she’s up for a challenge and isn’t one to give up easily. As for Grayson Wyatt, I adored his personality! Some might accuse of him of being stiff and formal, but he follows a particular protocol; he knows there are boundaries at… Read more »

Book Review: Jennifer Haymore’s The Rogue’s Proposal

Book Review: Jennifer Haymore’s The Rogue’s Proposal

I wasn’t a fan of Jennifer Haymore’s debut, A Hint Wicked and as a fan of historical romance, I decided to give her another try. Unfortunately, The Rouge’s Proposal had potential to be an intriguing romance with a hint of mystery, but it falls flat. Character development is weak and by the time we get to the ending, I’m still not sure I knew the characters well enough to say that I liked them. Emma Curtis is a widow and her father blames her for losing his fortune because her husband makes a bad business deal. Carrying that weight, she opts to make things better by searching for Roger Morton. Lucas Hawkins lives in the shadow of his brother, the Duke of Trent. He has some dark secret that made… Read more »

Book Review: Jessica Lemmon’s The Millionaire Affair

Book Review: Jessica Lemmon’s The Millionaire Affair

Jessica Lemmon’s The Millionaire Affair is the third book in her Love in the Balance series and it’s her best to date! If you haven’t read any of the books in the series, never fear! It’s not necessary to have read them in order to enjoy The Millionaire Affair and besides, it’s a perfect excuse to read her backlist because you’ll be left wanting more. We have good character development. Kimber Reynolds accepts the short term position as a live in nanny in order to buy out her ex-boyfriend from the business they co-own. She’s very capable and one that works hard, but also realizes she may be in over her head. While she’s not one to easily ask for help, she’s not one to turn away when it is… Read more »

Book Review: Kate Meader’s All Fired Up

Book Review: Kate Meader’s All Fired Up

I have a confession; I’ve been eying Kate Meader’s Feel the Heat, but haven’t had the chance to read it. When the opportunity came to review All Fired Up, I couldn’t pass up the chance. All Fired Up is the second book in Meader’s Hot in the Kitchen series. If you haven’t read the first in the series, Feel the Heat, it is not necessary to do so in order to enjoy All Fired Up. Meader does give us a bit of backstory but I wouldn’t consider them spoilers. What happens in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas and for Cara DeLuca life is just about to get complicated. Meeting Shane Doyle at her cousin’s co-bachelor / bachelorette party doesn’t mean anything to Cara. When she wakes up the next day,… Read more »

Book Review: Jessica Lemmon’s Hard to Handle

Book Review: Jessica Lemmon’s Hard to Handle

Jessica Lemmon’s Hard to Handle is the second book in her Love in the Balance series. If you read Can’t Let Go, the companion novella (that’s how I refer it) to Tempting the Billionaire, then you know what happens between Sadie and Aiden. If you haven’t read it or Tempting, never fear-Lemmon provides enough background information and you won’t feel lost. It’s not necessary to read these prior to Hard to Handle, but you’ll have a better understanding of the events and situations if you do. Hard to Handle picks up a year after Tempting the Billionaire ends. Crickitt and Shane are now married and Aiden is back in town for the wedding. At first, both Aiden and Sadie put on fake smiles for the sake of their friends wedding,… Read more »

Book Review: Jessica Lemmon’s Can’t Let Go

Jessica Lemmon’s Can’t Let Go was originally scheduled for an October release with Hard to Handle set for September, but the dates were changed. While some may hate the ending to Can’t Let Go and call it a cliffhanger, it really isn’t one. If you haven’t read Tempting the Billionaire, you don’t need to in order to enjoy Can’t Let Go, but I do recommend it because you’ll have a better understanding of the time frame. It’s not necessary though! Those that read Lemmon’s Tempting the Billionaire will remember Sadie and Aiden. Both are secondary characters and we know from Tempting that Sadie ends up dating Aiden. What we don’t know is exactly what happened between the two of them. Crickitt attempts to get to the bottom of it, but… Read more »

Book Review: Jessica Lemmon’s Tempting the Billionaire

Book Review: Jessica Lemmon’s Tempting the Billionaire

The romance genre is oversaturated with billionaire plots and even though I had my doubts, Jessica Lemmon’s Tempting the Billionaire was a pleasant surprise. Crickitt Day is down on her luck and needs a job. Hoping to chase the blues away she agrees to a night out with her best friend Sadie. While at the bar Crickitt breaks down into tears as she takes stock of her life and what she’s lost. Across from Crickitt is Shane August and his cousin Aiden. Shane reluctantly agrees to go out with Aiden to help him get back into the dating scene. Aiden quickly zeroes in on Crickitt and seeing her tears assumes she’ll be easy to seduce; however, Shane takes one look at Crickitt and his heart stops. He’s interested in her… Read more »
