Book Review: Cathy Maxwell’s The Fairest of Them All

I’ve always enjoyed Cathy Maxwell’s books and sadly, I haven’t kept up with her. When given the opportunity to read The Fairest of Them All, I couldn’t pass up the chance to get reacquainted with her work! Fairest is the second in her Marrying the Duke series and if you haven’t the read the first, The Match of the Century, it’s not necessary to enjoy Fairest. We have really good character development. Lady Charlene Blanchard had a difficult childhood and I can’t imagine growing up the way she did. She’s feisty and courageous. Charlene is also very loyal to her friends and will do anything to make sure they have everything they need. Book Review: Cathy Maxwell’s The Earl Claims His Wife

I like Cathy Maxwell and it’s been awhile since I’ve picked up a book of hers. The Earl Claims His Wife is book 2 in her Scandals and Seductions series. I haven’t read the first book and don’t see a problem reading the series out of order; however, if you’re the type that doesn’t like to be spoiled then start with book 1 (A Seduction at Christmas). I should start out by saying that I enjoy the abandoned wife plot in historical romance. Maxwell does a good job with a simple plot. After spending four years under Wellington’s command and fighting Napoleon, Brian, the Earl of Wright, returns to London; reluctantly he honors his father’s demands of returning and only because his two older brothers are now dead.
