Blog Tour: Review-Lauren Layne’s Only with You + Giveaway

Blog Tour: Review-Lauren Layne’s Only with You + Giveaway

Lauren Layne is an author I’ve wanted to read ever since I won a copy of After the Kiss, but haven’t had the chance to do so. When I read the synopsis to Only with You, I knew I had to read it and when the opportunity came to participate in the blog tour, I couldn’t pass up the chance! We have really good character development. Sophie Dalton is relatable and likeable. She’s always done what was expected of her, but she’s a free spirit. I liked that she’s up for a challenge and isn’t one to give up easily. As for Grayson Wyatt, I adored his personality! Some might accuse of him of being stiff and formal, but he follows a particular protocol; he knows there are boundaries at… Read more »

Book Review: Linda Howard’s Shadow Woman

Book Review: Linda Howard’s Shadow Woman

I’ve always wanted to read Linda Howard’s books, but I’ve never had the chance to do so. When the opportunity came to review Shadow Woman via LibraryThing’s Early Reviewers Program, I couldn’t pass up the chance to finally read an author I’ve been wanting to. Unfortunately, Howard’s Shadow Woman falls short. Character development is a little weak. We have Lizette Henry who pretty much lives a predictable life. For the past three years she’s never done anything out of character until she’s forced to call in sick. Even when we find out who Lizzy is, we aren’t given much information regarding her past. I wanted a little more to fully understand her. Despite this, she’s a likeable character and you care about her fate. Then we have Xavier, he’s a… Read more »

Book Review: Jessica Lemmon’s The Millionaire Affair

Book Review: Jessica Lemmon’s The Millionaire Affair

Jessica Lemmon’s The Millionaire Affair is the third book in her Love in the Balance series and it’s her best to date! If you haven’t read any of the books in the series, never fear! It’s not necessary to have read them in order to enjoy The Millionaire Affair and besides, it’s a perfect excuse to read her backlist because you’ll be left wanting more. We have good character development. Kimber Reynolds accepts the short term position as a live in nanny in order to buy out her ex-boyfriend from the business they co-own. She’s very capable and one that works hard, but also realizes she may be in over her head. While she’s not one to easily ask for help, she’s not one to turn away when it is… Read more »

Book Review: Molly O’Keefe’s Wild Child

Book Review: Molly O’Keefe’s Wild Child

I’ve been waiting since October 2013 to read Molly O’Keefe’s Wild Child because I was notified I’d be receiving a copy via LibraryThing’s Early Reviewers program, but I didn’t actually receive a copy until April. I’ll be truthful, I struggled to finish it and while it’s my first O’Keefe novel, it won’t be my last. Character development is a bit weak. Monica Appleby is America’s “Wild Child” and her antics would make the antics of today’s Hollywood young stars look like a walk in the park. As an adult, she’s moved on from that and has become a successful author. As a character, I liked her, but it was difficult to really get to know her. I understand why she kept to herself, but I wanted her to be a… Read more »

Book Review: Rainbow Rowell’s Landline

Book Review: Rainbow Rowell’s Landline

Rainbow Rowell’s Landline was just a delight to read! I’ve been in a strange reading funk and devoured this book in a few days. While I could have read it in one sitting, I decided to get lost and really enjoy it. This is my second Rowell book and it won’t be my last! I enjoyed Eleanor and Park and I’ve had some trepidation picking up Fangirl, but since reading Landline I know not to fear anything. We have great character development. Georgie is a hardworking mother of two girls who dreams of having her own successful show. When a lifetime opportunity lands on her lap, she has to make the painful decision of work or her family. I liked really Georgie and believe any female reader will be able… Read more »

Blog Tour: Review-Melissa Foster’s Read, Write, Love + Giveaway

Blog Tour: Review-Melissa Foster’s Read, Write, Love + Giveaway

I adore novels where one of the main characters is an author because it always gives the reader an insight to how an author views themselves (even if it’s on a subconscious level). So when I saw the synopsis for Melissa Foster’s Read, Write, Love, I knew I couldn’t pass it up! If you haven’t read Foster’s Love in Bloom or Remington series, it’s perfectly okay to delve right in. I haven’t read any books in the series and didn’t find anything that I would consider a spoiler. Character development is a bit weak. Our heroine is Leanna Bray and she’s a free spirit! Oh boy is she ever. I really liked her outlook on life and how she was cautious about saving the money she inherited. My problem with… Read more »

Book Review: Pamela DuMond’s The Story of You and Me

Book Review: Pamela DuMond’s The Story of You and Me

Pamela DuMond’s The Story of You and Me is your typical new adult romance novel: girl meets boy and both fall head over heels. Unfortunately, this one fell flat despite the author’s reason for writing this novel (which brought tears to my eyes when I read the author letter). Character development is a bit weak. We get to know Sophie fairly well, but she’s still keeping us at arms length. At times, she comes off as a bit of a ditz (more on that later) and I just had a difficult time actually liking her and couldn’t connect with her. Then there’s Alex, the hot guy that makes Sophie weak in the knees. The problem? I thought he was too sweet and a bit too perfect though he’s hiding a… Read more »
