Celebrating a Life: Bas the Gator Hunter

Celebrating a Life: Bas the Gator Hunter

Seven months ago today, we lost Bas aka the Gator Hunter and my heart still aches. I didn’t do his Celebrating a Life post because it just hurt too much. It still hurts a lot, but he was so loved! He came into my life in late 2008 when my sister adopted him. I still remember going to pick him up with her. The Albuquerque City Animal Shelter has a small shop in one of the local malls and they rotate animals from the shelter to the mall location in hopes that someone will adopt them while they shop at the mall. His name was Charlie and he was a cocker spaniel mix. My sister changed his name because we already a Charlie. He had been rescued from people who… Read more »

Celebrating a Life: Kaos the Cat

Celebrating a Life: Kaos the Cat

On Monday, November 02, 2015 we had to put our oldest cat, Kaos to sleep. He was about 13/14 years old and came into our life as a wrecking ball. At the time, our only cat Kitty, was an outdoor cat and every evening, I’d go out to the front and call her, “Kitty! Here Kitty, kitty, kitty.” Sometimes she’d come right away and other times we’d go inside and then come back for a second round of calling. That night, my sister and I called for her and we heard meowing but she wasn’t around. Then all of sudden this little white ball of fur came running out of the bushes and we go into the house screaming! He was named after two members of boybands: Lance Bass from… Read more »

Celebrating a Life: The Husky

Celebrating a Life: The Husky

Shortly after 2 am this morning, we got a phone call that the Husky’s blood pressure and sugar were falling and they were working to save her. About five minutes later, we got another call that she passed. And I am devastated. The Husky came into our life as a big fur ball. She was born on September 15, 2002 to my aunt P’s huskies and a month or so later she became a member of our family. Originally P was going to keep her and give us a cinnamon type pup but my parents fell for the Husky. I remember the first evening she was home: my parents and sister went to dinner and I stayed behind so she wouldn’t be alone. I heard some crying coming from their… Read more »

Celebrating a Life: My Grandmother

Celebrating a Life: My Grandmother

It’s been rather quiet around here and I wanted to explain why. Four weeks ago, we were notified that my grandmother was ill and probably wouldn’t see the end of the year. I prayed and hoped for a miracle, but someone upstairs wanted her to spend Christmas and ring in the New Year with them. On Thursday, December 4th, my grandmother, Elena, died. She was born in 1927 to a family of well to do farmers. During the Great Depression, her family did not experience the hardship and hunger that many families did and in fact many neighbors often came to her father where they would barter work for food. My grandmother often told the story of her family knowing Mexican Revolutionary General, Francisco “Pancho” Villa. Rumor has it; he… Read more »
