Book Review: Chelsea Cain’s Let Me Go

Book Review: Chelsea Cain’s Let Me Go

Chelsea Cain’s Let Me Go is the sixth book in her Archie Sheridan / Gretchen Lowell series. If you haven’t read the series, start with Heartsick and work your way down. For a standalone, read The Night Season. Let Me Go is not a standalone and Cain mentions a few cases and people from the other books, hence the reason I recommend starting with Heartsick. Let Me Go picks up shortly after Kill You Twice leaves off. Gretchen is still at large and for once Archie takes things in stride. When Archie receives some unsettling news, he sets out to meet with Leo Reynolds, son of drug lord Jack Reynolds and a secret DEA agent. Soon Archie finds out Jack is the one pulling the strings and Leo is being… Read more »

Book Review: Kat Rosenfield’s Amelia Anne is Dead & Gone

Book Review: Kat Rosenfield’s Amelia Anne is Dead & Gone

Those of us who grew up in a small town can relate to the feeling of watching your peers leave full of hope and then returning, finding themselves trapped with no way out. On the night of her high school graduation, Becca Williams is dumped by her boyfriend James. She doesn’t know while she was left heartbroken, another woman, Amelia Ann Richardson, took her last breath. In many ways Becca fears being trapped in Bridgeton and in the end Amelia Anne is forever stuck there. As far as character development goes, there’s not much there. I learned more about Amelia Anne from herself than those around her. In terms of our main character, Becca, I could relate to her and the dread of knowing she might never leave the town… Read more »

Book Review: Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl

Book Review: Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl

Gone Girl has been sitting in my to be read pile for awhile now and even though I’m late to the party, I have finally arrived. I’ve never read Gillian Flynn before and even though I’ve seen her books around, nothing really prompted me to read anything of hers before. I kept seeing people rave about her latest and I finally decided to see for myself. I can’t believe I waited this long. What I can say about Gone Girl without spoiling it? Nick Dunne isn’t going to win the husband of the year award and when his wife, Amy, goes missing on the day of their fifth anniversary, questions soon arise about his true character. Nick himself is hiding a few secrets and he maintains his innocence regarding his… Read more »

Book Review: Chelsea Cain’s Kill You Twice

Book Review: Chelsea Cain’s Kill You Twice

Chelsea Cain once again delivers! Kill You Twice is the fifth installment in the Sheridan/Lowell serial killer series and honestly I do believe this is the best of the series. If you haven’t read the books start with Heartsick as this really isn’t a stand alone. For that you’d have to read The Night Season (book 4). Archie Sheridan, detective for the Portland, Oregon police department, is back and this time he has another murder to solve. When a body is found gagged, skinned and tied to a tree he knows this isn’t an ordinary killer he’s looking for. So when Gretchen Lowell, the “Beauty Killer,” calls him with information regarding the latest murder, Archie has to begin to distinguish what the truth is and it leaves us all a… Read more »
