A. G. Howard Book Signing Wrap Up + Giveaway

A. G. Howard Book Signing Wrap Up + Giveaway

On Friday, February 7th, A. G. Howard was in town and there was a book signing. I wasn’t aware that the bookstore had a separate building for bookish events and was surprised at how dead it was. I browsed a bit and then Howard herself walked into the store and was told she was in the wrong location. So there she goes and I’m following her! Good thing it was in the same vicinity! On arrival I bought 4 copies: 2 of Splintered & 2 of Unhinged. The cashier mentioned she was a book blogger too, but I didn’t get a chance to get her blog name and exchange info. The highlight of the evening wasn’t only Howard, but meeting Danielle from Consuming Worlds! We’ve talked before and haven’t had… Read more »

Deanna Raybourn Book Signing Wrap Up

Deanna Raybourn Book Signing Wrap Up

I’ve made no secret about loving Deanna Raybourn’s books and when I heard she was coming to Albuquerque to give a workshop for the LERA members in early November, I admit I was disappointed because I couldn’t afford the fee to attend the workshop. Then I noticed a local bookstore had her lined up for a book signing and score! I had reservations about taking all seven of her books to get signed, but another author said it would be okay. When I walked into Page 1, I was hauling all seven books in my Penguin tote (yup, the one I was given when the truck stopped) and one employee eyed me suspiciously. I bet they thought I was going to sell some books, but when I mentioned the book… Read more »

David Morrell Southwest Book Fiesta Wrap up

David Morrell Southwest Book Fiesta Wrap up

I was clearing out files the other day and noticed I still hadn’t posted two book signing wrap ups and decided to get those posted during the last few days of December. The first one is David Morrell’s wrap up from his talk at the Southwest Book Fiesta (recap here). I grew up watching the Rambo films with my father since he really enjoyed them. I was aware of Morrell’s books, but never picked one up then I read a review for Murder as a Fire Art in an issue of Entertainment Weekly and was intrigued. I came across Thomas De Quincey before in class when I was in Glasgow and found him very interesting so when I read Morrell based his book on him, I knew I had to… Read more »

Darynda Jones Southwest Book Fiesta & Book Signing Wrap Up + Giveaway

Darynda Jones Southwest Book Fiesta & Book Signing Wrap Up + Giveaway

I meant to post this wrap up of meeting Darynda Jones this past May in June but things were a bit hectic. I then decided since I was attending her reading of Fifth Grave Past the Light, I would wait to post the wrap up. I’m going to combine both events into one post. There’s a signed copy of Fifth Grave with swag up for grabs (sorry guys US / Canada only because of shipping). Southwest Book Fiesta wrap up can be found here. • Picked Albuquerque for the setting of her Charley Davidson because it’s an urban setting and she lived in the city for 7 years.  Plus it’s part of the whole write what you know advice. • Her Darklight trilogy ends in October when the third book… Read more »

Gillian Flynn Chicago Discussion of Gone Girl

Gillian Flynn Chicago Discussion of Gone Girl

I’m excited to welcome the lovely Rachelle B as today’s guest blogger! She was kind enough to attend Gillian Flynn’s discussion and book signing in Chicago. If you’re wondering, I’m the friend who sent the book. On 2/13/13 I had the opportunity to hear Gillian Flynn speak at the Harold Washington Library. I had never read anything by this author, but a friend of mine in New Mexico is a huge fan, so I figured I’d check her out. My friend ended up sending me a copy of Flynn’s newest book, Gone Girl, so I definitely had to go now. I’m so glad I did. Flynn is an entertaining and inspirational person. When asked when her interest in writing ‘darker’ books began, she told us that her very first short… Read more »

Deborah Harkness Q&A

Deborah Harkness Q&A

On August 1, 2012, I had the honor of attending a reading & signing by author Deborah Harkness. I walked on clouds for weeks afterward. She read two sections from Shadow of Night & answered some questions regarding the series. She was very kind and I wish I had more time to talk to her, but there was a line behind me. Located below are the questions asked by those in attendance. Permission was granted by Harkness to post the q&a (thank you!). Some of the questions are phrased in a way that is meant for her to answer, but instead of “I” you’ll see them answered in third person. The reason for this is partly because of the way my notes were written. I was scribbling like crazy in… Read more »
