Book Review: Jill Shalvis’ Accidentally on PurposeTitle: Accidentally on Purpose

Genre: Contemporary Romance
My Rating: four-stars
My Copy: ARC via Avon
Add to: Goodreads
Synopsis: Elle Wheaten’s priorities: friends, career, and kick-ass shoes. Then there’s the muscular wall of stubbornness that’s security expert Archer Hunt—who comes before everything else. No point in telling Mr. “Feels-Free Zone” that, though. Elle will just see other men until she gets over Archer . . . which should only take a lifetime . . .

There’s no such thing as a little in lust…

Archer’s wanted the best for Elle ever since he sacrificed his law-enforcement career to save her. But now that she’s earned happiness and success, Archer just wants Elle 24/7. Their chemistry could start the next San Francisco Earthquake, and Archer doesn’t want to be responsible for the damage. The alternative? Watch her go out with guys who aren’t him . . .

There is such a thing as…

As far as Archer’s concerned, nobody is good enough for Elle. But when he sets out to prove it by sabotaging her dates, she gets mad—and things get hot as hell. Now Archer has a new mission: prove to Elle that her perfect man has been here all along…

Over the Christmas break, I read my first Jill Shalvis book, The Trouble with Mistotle. I loved it and couldn’t wait to read more of her books! When I was given the opportunity to review Accidentally on Purpose, I couldn’t say no. It’s the third book in her Heartbreaker Bay series and if you haven’t read any of the books in the series, it’s not necessary to enjoy Accidentally on Purpose. Although, I have a confession…I actually thought Accidentally on Purpose was part of a different series and thought how nice it was that other Shalvis characters made cameos!

We have great character development. Elle Wheaten is a strong and independent woman! She’s definitely a woman who can handle anything thrown her way. Elle is also fiercely loyal and isn’t afraid to make things right. And then we have Archer Hunt. Oh boy! What can I say about him? He’s caring and isn’t afraid to stand up for what’s right. I don’t want to spoil anything, but you’ll love him! Together, Elle and Archer are stubborn and in the end, just perfect for one another! We have a handful of secondary characters that play a vital role. I won’t go into detail because I don’t want to spoil anything, but it was nice to have these characters around because they provide a lot of balance.

What I loved about Accidentally on Purpose was how much Elle and Archer hated each other, but secretly wanted one another! Everyone around them knew they had chemistry, but these two refused to give in! Shalvis gives us a reason why and how these two met and you can’t help but feel happy and sad at the same time. Both have to grapple with the guilt they are feeling based on the decisions they made, but when they finally come together, everything is perfect!

This is my second book of hers and I can’t wait to read her backlist! I really enjoyed the banter between Archer and Elle. Most importantly, I just really liked how they talked. My favorite scene has to be the camping scene-I won’t go into detail, but I liked seeing a different side to Archer and the boys. Shalvis gives us scenes with Archer and his male employees, but when he’s with his boys, it’s different. I love the small town feel Shalvis gives us and makes me want to be friends with everyone in the Heartbreaker Bay series!

If you’re looking to try a new author or are in the mood for a great romance, I highly recommend Jill Shalvis’ Accidentally on Purpose! I personally can’t wait for the next book in the series.

I’ve never read any of Jill Shalvis’s work, but after reading this review I will be giving Accidentally on Purpose a go. I like stories where the hero and heroine hate each other but secretly want one another. Thanks for the heads-up, Jessica.
