Book Review: LynDee Walker’s Devil in the Deadline

Book Review: LynDee Walker’s Devil in the Deadline

Nichelle Clarke is back and once again deep into an investigation. This time she’s covering the horrific death of a young homeless girl. If you haven’t read any books in the Headlines in High Heels series, don’t fret. It’s not necessary to enjoy LynDee Walker’s Devil in the Deadline, but I do suggest reading the backlist or at least the first in the series so you understand who’s who and what relationships they are. We continue to have good character development. I personally enjoyed getting to know more about Nichelle’s background and liked that parts of her past had some connections to her current investigation. Most characters from the previous novels make an appearance although I missed the interactions with Parker. I’ll admit, I was surprised to see Shelby’s personal… Read more »

Book Review: LynDee Walker’s Small Town Spin

LynDee Walker’s Small Town Spin is the third book in the Headlines in High Heels series. If you haven’t read the series before it’s not necessary to do so in order to enjoy Small Town Spin. Walker does give us a bit of background information that occurs in the first two books, but nothing that I would consider a spoiler. What I really enjoyed about Small Town Spin was how different it read from the previous two full length novels. Walker gets personal with Nichelle and here we are given more than a passing glance at Nichelle’s life outside the newsroom. It’s no secret that I adore Joey and Joey fans will rejoice every time he makes an appearance. I just love how Walker makes us blush, laugh, and squeal… Read more »

Book Review: Heartache Motel (Anthology)

Book Review: Heartache Motel (Anthology)

What do Elvis and drag queens have in common? Memphis! Welcome to the Heartache Motel where Elvis is immortalized and three amateur sleuths find themselves staying in a seedy motel and planning a visit to Graceland. Anthologies are often difficult to review because you’re reading more than one novella and there’s always one or two that you enjoy the most. I’m going to review Heartache Motel a little differently from my usual style and give you my overall impression because I don’t want to give spoilers. “Diners Keepers, Losers Weepers” by Terri L. Austin Synopsis: When Rose and the gang head to Graceland right before Christmas, they get all shook up: the motel is a seedy dump and an Elvis impersonator turns up dead. Rose discovers missing jewels tie into… Read more »

Book Review: LynDee Walker’s Buried Leads

Book Review: LynDee Walker’s Buried Leads

LynDee Walker’s Buried Leads is the second book in the Nichelle Clark series. You don’t need to read Front Page Fatality to enjoy Buried Leads; although, several characters from Front Page do make an appearance. If you’re worried about spoilers, you won’t find any major ones preventing you from enjoying Front Page at a later date. Feel free to dive right in, but I do recommend reading Front Page prior to Buried Leads so you can become familiar with Nichelle and company. Richmond Telegraph crime reporter, Nichelle Clark is back! At first glance a dead body is just that, but when Nichelle receives a tip that the victim is a tobacco lobbyist and the suspect is the vice president of a tobacco company, she realizes there’s more to the story… Read more »
