Book Review: Pamela DuMond’s The Story of You and Me

Book Review: Pamela DuMond’s The Story of You and Me

Pamela DuMond’s The Story of You and Me is your typical new adult romance novel: girl meets boy and both fall head over heels. Unfortunately, this one fell flat despite the author’s reason for writing this novel (which brought tears to my eyes when I read the author letter). Character development is a bit weak. We get to know Sophie fairly well, but she’s still keeping us at arms length. At times, she comes off as a bit of a ditz (more on that later) and I just had a difficult time actually liking her and couldn’t connect with her. Then there’s Alex, the hot guy that makes Sophie weak in the knees. The problem? I thought he was too sweet and a bit too perfect though he’s hiding a… Read more »

The Essentials: Liz Carlyle

The Essentials: Liz Carlyle

Have you ever wanted to read an established author, but not sure where to start? Fear no more! The Essentials is a showcase spotlighting a specific author or series. The feature might even include non-bookish related items such as films or music. To kick off The Essentials, I’m spotlighting Liz Carlyle. Carlyle has written 21 full length novels and 3 novellas. She’s always on my auto buy list, but admit, I prefer classic Liz. By that I mean, I love her earlier novels which I consider to be essential to any historical romance fan! I’m always surprised when she’s not listed as an author to read when people ask for recommendations because I truly do consider her a gem. My False Heart /

Book Review: Kate Meader’s All Fired Up

Book Review: Kate Meader’s All Fired Up

I have a confession; I’ve been eying Kate Meader’s Feel the Heat, but haven’t had the chance to read it. When the opportunity came to review All Fired Up, I couldn’t pass up the chance. All Fired Up is the second book in Meader’s Hot in the Kitchen series. If you haven’t read the first in the series, Feel the Heat, it is not necessary to do so in order to enjoy All Fired Up. Meader does give us a bit of backstory but I wouldn’t consider them spoilers. What happens in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas and for Cara DeLuca life is just about to get complicated. Meeting Shane Doyle at her cousin’s co-bachelor / bachelorette party doesn’t mean anything to Cara. When she wakes up the next day,… Read more »

Book Review: Tracy Wolff’s Ruined

Book Review: Tracy Wolff’s Ruined

I was really excited to read Tracy Wolff’s Ruined because a few friends really enjoyed it. In the end, it fell a bit flat. Character development is a bit weak. Ethan went from being this beach bum type of guy to suddenly suit wearing CEO. For the most part, he remains mysterious and even when he tells Chloe a bit of his past we still don’t know exactly who Ethan Frost is. The whole beach bum vs CEO felt a bit off. Out of all the characters we get to know Chloe fairly well. It makes sense since she also narrates it. As a narrator I think she’s trustworthy. It’s clear something traumatic happened to her and she doesn’t tell us exactly what it is nor does she give us… Read more »

Blog Tour: Review-Christina Lee’s Before You Break + Giveaway

Blog Tour: Review-Christina Lee’s Before You Break + Giveaway

I enjoyed Christina Lee’s All of You and when asked to participate in the blog tour for Before You Break I didn’t think twice. Before You Break is a heartbreaking journey and one where two people will unknowingly save one another. We have good character development. Even though we first meet Ella Abrams in Lee’s All of You, it was a real treat getting to know her in Before You Break. Ella wants to make a difference and is a psychology major. She also volunteers at a suicide hotline and comes from a large loving family. It’s very easy to see why Ella has such good friends and you’ll even want to be her friend. Daniel “Quinn” is a star baseball player living in the shadows of his past. Everything… Read more »

But Daniel Quinn is hiding a guilty past so dark he refuses to let anyone get close. Book Review: Jayne Ann Krentz’s River Road

Book Review: Jayne Ann Krentz’s River Road

If you’re a fan of Jayne Ann Krentz’s books then you know that for the past few years she’s woven a mixture of the paranormal into her contemporary novels including her historical and futuristic novels. I was a bit unsure if I’d enjoy River Road because as much I liked her Arcane series, I was tired of reading about the paranormal. There’s been a lot of talk about Krentz’s return to romance (just plain old fashioned romance) and it’s refreshing to see her return to her roots. Thirteen years ago, Lucy Sheridan was a teenage girl spending the summer at her aunt’s house and crushing on Mason Fletcher. Unfortunately, Mason never saw Lucy as more than a kid and when he escorts her from a party she’s attending she’s embarrassed… Read more »
